Terézia Mora [ ˈtɛreːziɒ ˈmorɒ ] (born February 5, 1971 in Sopron (Ödenburg), Hungary ) is a German-speaking Hungarian writer , screenwriter and translator . She translates Hungarian works into German.

Life

Terézia Mora grew up in a family that belongs to the German minority , bilingual Hungarian and German. After the political change in Hungary in 1990 she went to Berlin to study hungarology and theater studies at the Humboldt University . Since then she has lived in the Prenzlauer Berg district of the German metropolis . She was trained as a screenwriter at the German Film and Television Academy (dffb).

She has been a freelance writer since 1998 . She writes her works in German . Terézia Mora worked for around ten years on a trilogy around the IT specialist Darius Kopp , of which Volume I, “The Only Man on the Continent”, was published in 2009 and Volume II, “Das Ungeheuer”, in 2013. For the second part, she received the German Book Prize in 2013 . Volume III “Auf dem Seil” was published in September 2019 at a kind of “book premiere” at the Berlin Academy of the Arts. In this final part, the protagonist starts a precarious life in contemporary Berlin after the death of his wife and the loss of his job as a 50-year-old after burnout . Surprisingly, this works without Hartz IV and social authority conflicts.

Mora is a member of the German PEN Center . In 2015 the German Academy for Language and Poetry elected her as a member. She is married and has a daughter. She writes her works exclusively in German.
