Harmonia Caelestis

Harmonia Caelestis is a novel by the Hungarian writer Péter Esterházy from the year 2000. On a good 900 pages, the work presents an extensive, artistically demanding account of the poet and his extensive magnate house as well as an artfully nested and informative history of Hungary and the Habsburg dual monarchy Esterházys were great art patrons for centuries, for example Joseph Haydn wrotemany works on behalf of the Esterházys, in whose castles he lived for almost thirty years. The novel also addresses the two world wars, communist rule and the social upheavals after the 1956 Hungarian uprising for the Esterházy family.

Also under the title Harmonia Caelestis , the composing Prince Paul I Esterházy de Galantha published 55 church cantatas for voices and instruments as early as 1711 .
