Marcio Doctor

Marcio Doctor (* 1965 in Buenos Aires ) is an Argentine jazz musician ( drums , percussion , composition ).

Doctor studied drums, percussion and piano in Buenos Aires. He deepened ethnic percussion with Mark Nauseef , Jamey Haddad , Glen Velez and Trilok Gurtu .

Since 1995 he has been a percussionist member of the NDR big band, with which he has participated in productions with Maria Schneider , Al Jarreau , Michael Gibbs , João Bosco , Bill Frisell , Bobby McFerrin , Peter Herborn , Colin Towns , Kenny Wheeler , Pat Metheny , Norbert Stein or Gebhard Ullmann was involved. He also belonged to the Tango Crash ensemble around Porteños Daniel Almada and Martin Iannaccone, with whom he created several albums.

There were also recordings and performances with artists such as Carla Bley , the Brecker Brothers , Lalo Schifrin , Cory Henry , Quincy Jones , Joshua Redman , Peter Erskine , Jim Beard & Metropole Orkest , Alon Yavnai , Toto Blanke , the WDR Big Band , Ensemble Absolute and the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra . He can also be heard on recordings by Achim Reichel , Udo Lindenberg , Wolfgang Haffner , Stefan Bauer , Mehmet Ergin , Claudio Puntin , Ulita Knaus and ElbtonalPercussion .

As a composer, he has written and performed music for radio features, radio plays and television documentaries and produced it for National Public Radio , KCRW-FM , Radio Ambulante , several ARD companies , arte and Canal + . He also composed film music for several short and documentary films, such as How to Raise the Moon .

Doctor also directs the percussion studies at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater , where he works as an associate professor.

Prizes and awards

The album Some Skunk Funk , in which Doctor was involved as a soloist, was awarded the 2007 Grammy Award for "Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album" . In 2008, the radio play got dreams of Günter Eich , whose revised version he contributed a part of the music, the German Radio Play Prize .
