Claudio Puntin
Claudio Puntin (* 1965 in Zug ) is a Swiss clarinetist, composer, music producer and goldsmith of Italian descent.
Live and act
In his youth, Puntin played folk music on the harmonica with his brother and father at peasant festivals in Friuli, Italy . At the age of 9 he started playing the clarinet. From 1981 to 1985, Puntin learned the profession of goldsmith at the School for Jewelry Design in Lucerne and received the Prix Golay Buchel Jewelry and Design in 1985 . From 1987 to 1993 he studied clarinet, bass clarinet, jazz and contemporary music in Cologne and Rotterdam . He regularly took part in courses given by Sergiu Celibidache , whom he describes as one of his most important teachers.
He founded various formations such as the Schorn Puntin Duo (with Steffen Schorn ) with whom he toured worldwide from 1990 to 2013. This was followed by various ensembles such as Quipu , the Claudio Puntin Trio (with Anders Jormin and Miroslav Tadić ), "Essence of North" with the Icelandic violinist Gerdur Gunnarsdóttir, "clap you" commissioned for the Days of New Music Donaueschingen 2000, the World Clarinet Quartet ( with Gabriele Mirabassi , Luca Raele and Paulo Sérgio Santos ), the “Balkan Clarinet Summit”, the “Trio Dolce Vita”, the baroque ensemble “Lamento Project”, the octet “Sepiasonic”, the electroacoustic trio “Ambiq” and together with Martina Taubenberger the festival soundtracks .

The concert suite "AROMA, imaginative spaces for clarinet, bass clarinet, electronics and orchestra" was presented by commissioned by the Finnish conductor Osmo Vänskä and premiered by him together with the Minnesota Orchestra and the composer as soloists on November 11th and 12th, 2016 in the Orchestra Hall Minneapolis MN.
He has worked as a musician, composer, arranger and actor in productions for the Berlin opera company Novoflot . Together with Alexandra Naumann, he wrote the musical theater piece “Von Menschen Tiere und other Instruments” (1993) for the Schauspielhaus Köln, played the klezmer clarinet in “Anatevka” (1993–94) and worked in the play “Petrol station of the damned” (1995) With. As a film music composer, he wrote the soundtracks for various films a. a .: “Soundless Windchime” (2008) and “Stoma” (2016) by Kit Hung, “Sunset in Venice” (Venice Short Film Award 1997) by Spiros Taraviras, “Teatatoo” by Robert Schmidt-Gill and worked as a studio musician in films such as : "Jenseits der Stille" (Oscar nomination), "Neger, Neger, Schornsteinfeger", "The flying classroom" among others. In 2011 he founded the electro-acoustic trios Ambiq together with Samuel Rohrer and Max Loderbauer . Ambiq uses ACO's (Acoustic Controlled Oscillator), triggers and other processes. a. Control modular synthesizers of clarinets and drums. Ambiq tracks have been remixed by various DJs. In addition to Thomas Fehlmann , Tobias. , Margaret Dygas , the collaboration with Ricardo Villalobos is particularly noteworthy. Together with him, Ambiq were able to bring their new form of free electronic music to a DJ-oriented audience in several live concerts. From this experience he developed a form of music that is close to quantum philosophy. Here he creates electronic rhythmic and tonal superpositions controlled by the clarinet, which are inspired by the wave / particle phenomenon of the double slit experiment.
Teaching
From 1998 to 2008 he taught at the Cologne University of Music, from 2009 to 2013 he was a lecturer for jazz clarinet at the JIB Universität der Künste Berlin , he gives international masterclasses and workshops a. a. to: California Jazz Conservatory, music academies in Trento, Helsinki, Beijing, Bangkok, Hanoi, Lucerne, Leipzig, Dresden, Arnhem, Belgrade, La Paz, Santiago. Prizes and awards
In a duo with Schorn, Puntin was a finalist at the European Jazz Competition Leverkusen in 1991 , won first prize in the Frankfurt Music Creativity Competition in 1993 and the support award of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and the Southern Comforts Jazz Musician of the Year in 1994, and the Essen Jazz Pot in 1999 In 2000 he received the Werkjahr of the canton of Zug, in 2004 he was the first winner of the WDR Jazz Prize in Cologne.
