Unit Records is a Swiss jazz label that has existed since 1983.

history

In 1983 the Swiss jazz musicians Jürg Solothurnmann , Hans Kennel , Paul Haag and Urs Blöchlinger launched the label as a “platform for innovative musicians on the German-speaking Swiss scene”; they oriented themselves to the label Plainisphare , the musicians from the Romandie supported. Initially, albums were released from projects by the label founders such as the Alpine Jazz Herd , the Uepsilon group and the jazz community . Unit concentrated its activities in particular on music, which was then classified as "New Jazz", such as that produced in Zurich in the "Workshop for improvised music" there.

In 1991 the later director of Pro Helvetia , Pius Knüsel, took over the management of the label. From 1996 Lucas Niggli headed its activities. Then Unit Records was integrated into the structures of the Swiss Music Syndicate until a group around Harald Haerter took over the label in 2005 .
