Bänz Oester
Bänz Oester (* 1966 in Bern ) is a Swiss jazz bassist.
Act
Oester studied classical double bass from 1983 to 1987 with Bela Szedlak , and from 1986 to 1989 at the Swiss Jazz School with Peter Frei . He worked as a sideman with Dewey Redman , Joe Lovano , Michael Brecker , Ray Anderson , Arthur Blythe , Joey Baron , Chris Potter , Marc Johnson , Bill Stewart , Gary Bartz , Jim Black , Walter Norris , Michel Godard , Adam Nussbaum and many others.
He led numerous bands of his own, including several trio formations, u. a. the Trio Oester with Mike del Ferro and Gilbert Paeffgen , Trio Weiss , Oester Pfammatter , Who with Michel Wintsch and Gerry Hemingway , Braff , Oester, Rohrer , The Bridge with Philipp Schaufelberger and Pierre Favre , with whose ensemble he produced the ECM album Fleuve ( 2006), as well as various quartet and quintet formations. He also worked as a duo with Hiroko Takada and Andreas Schaerer . He has been leading the successful Rainmakers quartet since 2012 .
In addition to albums as a sideman and bandleader, he released the solo album Blospermint Suite in 2007 . Oester is professor for double bass and ensemble playing at the jazz department of the Basel University of Music .
