Vinz Vonlanthen

Vinz Vonlanthen (born February 7, 1959 in Bern ) is a Swiss jazz and improvisation musician ( guitar , composition ).

Live and act

Vonlanthen initially wanted to play drums as a child and therefore used the guitar very percussively. Influenced by rock music and fusion , he completed a vocational school as a musician at the Swiss Jazz School . At times he lived in Brazil and for a year in Ghana, studying the music of these countries and African percussion. In Ghana he toured with the singer Blay Ambolley.

Between 1984 and 1994 he was successful in Central Europe with Bänz Oester and Gilbert Paeffgen in the free funk trio Aventure Dupont . During longer stays in Paris there were sessions with Steve Grossman , Oliver Johnson and Alby Cullaz . Marc Bertaux , Jef Sicard, Nenê , Bobby Rangell and Étienne M'Bappé worked in his group Paris Connection . He was also part of Oesters Snow of Tomorrow , the trio of Yves Massy and the Box Room Orchestra around Jacques Demierre and Olivier Magnenat . He also accompanied the singer Jean Bart . Most recently, Hans Koch , Bänz Oester and Olivier Clerc played in his band Urban Safari . In 2005 he released an album for guitar solo with [Oeil] . He can also be heard on albums by George Robert and worked with Barry Guy , Gerry Hemingway , Sylvie Courvoisier , Jacques Demierre, Joke Lanz, Michel Wintsch , Adama Dramé , Roberto Viscaino and Kenny Wheeler .

He also worked as a composer and interpreter of theater music at the 1990 international theater spectacle in Bern. He teaches at the St.Gallen jazz school.
