Gilbert Paeffgen

Gilbert Paeffgen (born January 21, 1958 in Würzburg ) is a German jazz musician ( drums , Appenzell dulcimer , composition).

Paeffgen, who grew up in Würzburg, learned to play drums from the age of 14 and initially played in Krautrock groups. At the age of 21 he moved to Bern, where he had worked in the Free Funk Trio with guitarist Vincent Vonlanthen and bassist Bänz Oester since 1983 , and released two albums; the same line-up also appeared as Aventure Dupont and released records in 1988 and 1991. He also performed in a duo with percussionist Tini Hägler between 1983 and 1990. With Paolo Fresu , Peter Waters and Tony Overwater he formed the Treya Quartet , which is based on his interpretations of Gabriel Faurénoticed. He led his own piano trio; In addition, he founded the trio Hackbrettplus in 2005 with bassist Lorenz Beyeler and guitarist Nick Perrin and is also active in the hammer sickel unruh dulcimer sextet . He also worked with Giorgos Antoniou , Christoph Baumann , Vera Kappeler , Töbi Tobler , Eric Vloeimans and Nicolas Thys . He can also be heard on albums with Werner Hasler / Pierre Audétat , Antonio Breschi, Shirley Grimes and Philipp Läng.

In 2016 he received the culture award of the Bürgi-Willert-Foundation.
