Vera Kappeler

Vera Kappeler (* 1974 in Basel ) is a Swiss jazz pianist who occasionally plays the harmonium .

Live and act

After attending school in Basel, Kappeler studied classical piano at the conservatory in Winterthur from 1995 to 1999 . She also took lessons from Hans Feigenwinter at the Basel Jazz School and from Lester Menezes.

In the Duo Bergerausch she accompanied the singer Bettina Klöti in the interpretation of old, lesser known Swiss folk songs. In the quartet (and duo) Tuliaisia she worked with the singer Marianne Racine ; She also appeared in a duo with guitarist Philipp Schaufelberger and drummer Peter Conradin Zumthor and in a trio with Simon Gerber and Lionel Friedli , with Felix Profos ' Forcemajeure and Christoph Irniger's Pilgrim . She also belonged to the New Tsotsis of Makaya Ntshoko and the sextet Grünes Blatt . She also gave concerts with Gilbert Paeffgen , Bänz Oester , Norbert Pfammatter , Corin Curschellas , Peter Herbert and Wolfgang Mitterer . She also performed a solo program with songs by Paul Burkhard . Kappeler teaches piano at the jazz department of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences .

Prizes and awards

In 2008 she received the advancement award of the city of Winterthur and the ZKB jazz award. In 2011, she was the first woman to be awarded the SUISA Foundation's Jazz Prize for Music for her “innovative and creative jazz work”.
