Lionel Friedli (* 1975 in Moutier ) is a Swiss jazz - drummer .

Live and act

Friedli grew up in Biel, had lessons at the Biel Conservatory and studied at the Lucerne School of Music with Norbert Pfammatter (graduated in 2005). He worked from 1998 a. a. with his college friend Lucien Dubois , with whom the first recordings were made in Lausanne ( Sumo , 2000), Manuel Mengis ( Into the Barn , Hatology, 2004), Nicolas Masson , Vera Kappeler , Christoph Stiefel , from 2013 with Sarah Buechi . He also played with Heiri Känzig , Marc Ribot , Colin Vallon and Luzia von Wyl . He is currently working u. a. with Christy Doran 's New Bag, in the formation Elgar (with Hans Koch and Flo Stoffner ), in the Max Frankl Quartet, OZMO (with Vincent Membrez and Pedro Lenz), Merz feat. Sartorius Drum Ensemble, in a quartet of Laura Schuler and Whisperings (with Fred Frith ). In the field of jazz he was involved in 14 recording sessions between 2000 and 2015. In 2015 he received the Jazz Prize of the Suisa Foundation.
