Sarah Buechi (born October 18, 1981 in Lucerne ) is a Swiss jazz singer .

Live and act

Buechi, who comes from a family of musicians (mother is an organist and choir director, father is a composer and piano teacher) and grew up in the canton of Glarus , began taking violin lessons at the age of five. She also learned the piano and guitar. After playing and singing rock music and writing a musical in her youth , she studied at the jazz department of the Hochschule für Musik with Lauren Newton and Susanne Abbuehl until 2007 and for 18 months at the Karnataka College of Percussion with RA Ramamani . Since then, her singing has had microtonal elements from South Indian music . She also took lessons from Médéric Collignon , Sheila Jordan , Jay Clayton and Steve Coleman .

In 2008, she toured with the group Zoom of Lucas Niggli , then with the Swiss Indian Orchestra and with her group Thali with which she recorded her first album of 2010. She was also heard with the Helvetic Fiddlers at the Festival Alpentöne 2011. She also belongs to Christy Doran's New Bag and to Christoph Stiefel's Isorhythm Orchestra , with whom she performed at the Schaffhausen Jazz Festival.

Since September 2008 she has been teaching at Newpark Music Center in Dublin for five years . In 2010 she received the Traveling and Training Award from Artscouncil Ireland.
