Stefan Aeby

Stefan Aeby (born July 3, 1979 in Freiburg im Üechtland ) is a Swiss jazz musician (piano, composition).

Aeby first studied at the conservatory in his hometown and then took lessons from Jean Christophe Cholet, Art Lande , Don Friedman and Marc Copland . At the same time, he studied musicology and art history at the University of Friborg up to his licentiate degree (2005), before completing a master's degree in music education at the Bern University of the Arts by 2010 .

Aeby led his own trio, for which he also writes and arranges. He also worked with the Aeby-Hellmüller-Moret-Sartorius quartet, the groups of Sarah Buechi , Daniel Schenker , Christoph Irnigers Pilgrim , the Lisette Spinnler 4, the quartet of Tobias Preisig and the quartet No Square . Between 2010 and 2015 he joined the trio Bucher Sommer Friedli , with whom two albums were created for Unit Records . He also set live silent films from the 1920s and gave solo concerts, including at the 2008 Montreux Jazz Festival .

He also played with musicians such as Franck Tortiller , Ohad Talmor , Claudio Puntin , Gabriele Mirabassi , Bob Mintzer , Bänz Oester , Marcel Papaux , Claude Schneider, Anne-Flo Schneider, Popol Lavanchy and Patrice Moret . He was also heard with the Swiss Jazz Orchestra , the Big Band de Lausanne and the Friborg Jazz Orchestra.

Between 2004 and 2010 he taught at the Montreux Jazz School. Since 2010 he has been teaching at the Freiburg Conservatory.
