Daniel Schenker (born March 25, 1963 in Männedorf ZH) is a Swiss jazz trumpeter and flugelhorn player .

Live and act

Daniel Schenker started playing the trumpet when he was 10 years old. After completing his computer science degree at the ETH Zurich , he studied at the Swiss Jazz School in Bern from 1992 to 1995 with the Belgian trumpeter and composer Bert Joris , with Frank Sikora and Joe Haider . After the professional diploma, the professional musicianship began and from 1997 several stays in New York. Schenker played with Bill Holman and Joe Lovano (at the "Generations Festival" 1998 in Frauenfeld ), with Kenny Werner at the Feldkirch Festival 2002, as well as in Swiss formations, including Adrian Frey , Elmar Frey, George Gruntz , the " Brigitte Dietrich - Joe Haider Jazz Orchestra “, Herbie Kopf (tours in Brazil, Russia and the Baltic States), Domenic Landolf , Pepe Lienhard (concerts in Thailand), Christoph Merki, Marianne Racine , Daniel Schnyder , Nat Su , Chris Wiesendanger , the Martin Streule Jazz Orchestra as well as with the Brazilian musicians Rodrigo Botter Maio, Ademir Candido and Eduardo “Dudu” Penz, who live in Switzerland.

Since 2001, Schenker has led his own quartet (with Stefan Aeby on piano, Dominique Girod on bass and Elmar Frey on drums), for which he also composes. Three albums were created. The quartet worked with guest tenor saxophonists Chris Cheek and Tony Lakatos from 2004–2006 .

In addition to his active music career, Schenker also worked as an expert on the “Jazz Collection” program on Swiss radio SRF 2 Kultur . In 2013 he took over the interim direction of the “ Zurich Jazz Orchestra ”. Schenker is professor of trumpet and ear training at the Jazz Faculty of the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK).
