Nat Su
Nathaniel "Nat" Su (born June 16, 1963 in Bülach ) is a Swiss jazz saxophonist ( alto ).
Live and act
Su is the son of a priest from Cameroon and a Swiss woman. He attended the Graz University of Music and Performing Arts and the Berklee College of Music in Boston . Su is particularly influenced by Lee Konitz . Since 1987 Su has been active as a professional jazz musician. He played u. a. with Franco Ambrosetti , Urs Voerkel , Irène Schweizer , Lee Konitz, Jürg Grau , Jack Walrath and performs with his own "Nat Su Trio" (with Marc Abrams and Dieter Ulrich ) and "Nat Su Quartet" (with bassist Stephan Kurmann , the drummer Norbert Pfammatter and the pianist Roberto Tarenzi). He also leads the predominantly US-American musicians existing quintet "The International Hashva Orchestra" (with drummer Jorge Rossy , pianist Mike Kanan, the tenor saxophonist Mark Turner , bassist Joe Martin ), with whom he shooting in TCB Records has recorded ("Palo Alto" 1995, "All's Well" 1999). In the mid-2000s, he stayed longer in New York to take private lessons with David Liebman . In 2007 TCB released his CD "Volatile", on which he played his own compositions with his quartet.
Su teaches saxophone (improvisation, ensemble playing) and jazz harmony at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts and has written a book on jazz harmony. He lives in Zurich.
