Jorge "Jordi" Rossy (born August 21, 1964 in Barcelona ) is a Spanish jazz musician ( drums , piano , vibraphone ).

Live and act

Rossy, whose older siblings Mercedes and Mario Rossy were or are also jazz musicians, began playing drums at the age of eleven. In the 1980s he initially worked in various groups from Lluís Vidal and Perico Sambeat , but also with Tete Montoliu , Carles Benavent , Chano Domínguez and traveling musicians such as Woody Shaw , Kenny Wheeler , Jack Walrath and Sal Nistico . In 1989 he went to the Berklee School of Music in Boston to study trumpet to study.

In the 1990s he played a. a. with Joshua Redman , Kurt Rosenwinkel , Mark Turner and Paquito D'Rivera (and recorded with Marc Johnson , Chick Corea , Jimmy Knepper and Danilo Pérez , among others ). In 1995 he played with Seamus Blake in the band "The Bloomdaddies". He became known as a drum partner in Brad Mehldau's trio between 1995 and 2005 (with Larry Grenadier on bass).

Then he concentrated on teaching in San Sebastian and from 2007 at the University of Music in Basel . In addition to drums, he also plays the piano. In the course of his teaching activity in Basel, he began to deal intensively with the vibraphone, which has now become one of his main instruments. In the field of jazz he was involved in 99 recording sessions between 1985 and 2017, including a. also with Klaus Ignatzek , Joshua Redman, Chris Cheek , Ethan Iverson , Steve Swallow , Mayte Alguacil and Andy Scherrer .
