Klaus Ignatzek

Klaus Ignatzek (born November 4, 1954 in Wilhelmshaven ) is a German jazz musician ( pianist , composer , lecturer ).

Ignatzek learned the piano from the age of eight; he studied music education at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg . 1981 followed a postgraduate course at Arizona State University . Further training levels were with Richie Beirach and Jim McNeely and workshops with Jamey Aebersold and Dave Liebman as well as Herbie Hancock .

From 1979 he worked in a duo with the saxophonist Jochen Voss , from 1983 with the rock jazz band Crossing . He also played in a trio with Dieter Ilg and the drummer Uwe Ecker , later with Jean-Louis Rassinfosse and Hans Dekker . He has toured with David Liebman , Bobby Watson , Roman Schwaller , Joe Henderson , Johannes Enders , Gustavo Bergalli , Claudio Roditi and Anca Parghel , most of which were also documented on sound carriers. In addition, he has released albums solo (eg “African Flower”, 1986) and in a duo with the vibraphonist Florian Poser or with the singer Susanne Menzel . Many of these projects run in parallel over a longer period of time and are regularly documented. Ignatzek has released more than 60 records.

Ignatzek teaches jazz theory and piano at the Oldenburg University. In 1995 his jazz piano school “The Jazz Method for Piano, Volume I” (Schott-Verlag) and in 1998 “Jazz Piano Blues” (ConBrio-Verlag) was published. In 1991 Ignatzek was awarded the "Lower Saxony Artist Scholarship" for his creative work.
