Uwe Ecker

Uwe Ecker (* 26. September 1960 in Wesel , Niederrhein ) is a German jazz - drummer who is active in the Cologne area.

Live and act

Ecker toured with Dave Liebman , Klaus Ignatzek and Dieter Ilg in the mid-1980s , with whom the album The Spell (Nabel, 1984) was created. In 1985 he accompanied Lauren Newton on an ORF radio production and went on tour with the singer and Dieter Ilg. In 1986 he toured with Klaus Ignatzek, Roman Schwaller and with the Thomas Heberer Quartet. From 1986 to 1988 he was a member of the Cologne group Nana (with Roger Hanschel , Rainer Linke and Hans Lüdemann ), with which he a. a. also made a guest appearance at the Leverkusen Jazz Days . Between 1986 and 1990 he studied at the Cologne University of Music ; he also had lessons from Marvin Smitty Smith , Kenwood Dennard , Victor Lewis and Christian Scheuber . He also worked a. a. with Michael Heupel and Peter Schulte . From 1988 to 1990 Ecker led his own quintet (with Renato Rozic , Saša Nestorović , Frank Gratkowski and Christian Ramond ). In 1988 he toured with the Christoph Adams Trio (with Pepe Berns); During the tour there was also an appearance with Woody Shaw .

In the 1990s Ecker concentrated on music pedagogical work; one of his students a. Christoph Krieger, Oliver Mewes and Jochen Rückert . From 1999 to 2003 he toured again with his own quartet with Hugo Read , Jozef Dumoulin and Martin Gjakonovski . In the 2000s Ecker toured Romania with the Nicolas Simion Group (with Martin Gjakonovski and Christopher Dell ) and worked on record productions and tours with the jazz quartet Septer Bourbon (with Markus Burger , Jan von Klewitz and Martin Gjakonovski). 2010–2012 he joined a. with Sherry Williams , James Linahon , Markus Burger and Martin Gjakonovski. Since 2011 he has been working with the Pantagruel Jazz Quintet , from which a quartet he led, consisting of Michael Heupel, Dierk Peters and Volker Heinze , toured in 2014 with the program “The Music of Gentle Giant and with music by Eric Satie .
