Christian Scheuber (born November 11, 1960 - June 20, 2021 ) was a German jazz musician ( drums , percussion , composition ).

Live and act

Christian Scheuber first learned the flute and gained experience in big bands and in the symphony orchestra. At the age of 16 he switched to drums, with which he won first prizes at the state level at an early age. In the early 1980s he was the soloist in the world premiere of a work by Wolfgang Hofmann for percussion and string orchestra. He became a member of the Landesjugendbigband Rheinland-Pfalz. He did his military service as a drummer in the Air Force Music Corps. From 1982 to 1988 Scheuber studied at the Swiss Jazz School in Bern with Billy Brooks . During his studies he played tours and festival appearances in Europe with the City West Quartet, with which he released three albums until 1994. From 1992 to 2000 he was part of Andrey Kondakov's trio and toured with him as the first European belonging to a Russian band to the USSR, the CIS states and Russia. After returning from a stay in New York in 1991, he joined forces with Reiner Witzel , Andrey Kondakov, Olivier Ker Ourio , Igor Butman and Vladimir Volkov to form the band Interjazz , which played many concerts in Western Europe, the CIS countries and the USA . The band's rhythm section was touring Norway in 1998 with horn player Arkady Shilkloper ; the album of the project received good reviews and was awarded the "Jazz Ear Award" in 1999.

In 2000 Scheuber founded his first band, Clara's Smile , with which an album was created for Double Moon Records . In 2001 he took a composition commission from the city of Ludwigshafen as an opportunity to found the big band Kicks n 'Sticks with Frank Runhof . Since 2001, Scheuber and Markus Schieferdecker have been part of Regina Litvinova's Extreme Trio . Reiner Witzel brought him into his trio three in the red circle in 2009 . With Litvinova he belonged to the trio of Richie Beirach . He also played in the concert band of his former student Tobias Frohnhöfer .

Scheuber also worked as a lecturer in the jazz and pop department of the music school in Ludwigshafen am Rhein . On his homestead in the Palatinate community of Heßheim , Scheuber lived with his trio colleagues Richie Beirach and Regina Litvinova in an artist shared apartment. Scheuber succumbed to the consequences of cancer in June 2021.
