Yves Torchinsky

Yves Torchinsky (born November 10, 1957 in Paris ) is a French bassist and composer of modern jazz .

Live and act

Torchinsky first played rock guitar before switching to bass guitar. He was active in the field of jazz rock and played with Dominique Pifarély in 1976 . He switched to the double bass and founded a trio with the pianist Francis Demanger in order to then run the group Chicot à bois sec . Since it was founded in 1981 with Jean-Philippe Viret , he has been a member of the Orchester de Contrebasses ; He was also a member of the ensembles of Xavier Cobot, Denis Badault , Gilles Clément , Jacques Bolognesi , Renaud Garcia-Fons , Simon Spang-Hanssen , Claus Stötter and René Urtreger . He also accompanied Barney Wilen and was involved in the Paris Musette project by Jean-Louis Chautemps . Between 2005 and 2008 he was a member of the Orchester National de Jazz under Franck Tortiller , with whom he also worked in other groups.

Torchinsky teaches at the Lille Conservatory and the University of Paris VIII . His compositions such as "Noire est la nuit" are considered to be the standard in French double bass training.
