Denis Badault

Denis Badault (born May 24, 1958 in Versailles ) is a French jazz pianist and composer .

Live and act

Badault started his piano and composition studies at the Conservatoire National in Boulogne-Billancourt and then continued at the CNSM . There was also a musicology degree from the university. In 1981 he played in the European Youth Jazz Orchestra in London , and the following year he founded his thirteen-member band à Badault , which lasted until 1988 and also performed with Louis Sclavis and Toots Thielemans . In addition, he was selected in 1986 by François Jeanneau as the pianist of the first Orchester National de Jazz , for which he was already receiving commissions for compositions such as “Sur les Marches de la Piscine” or “L'Atélé”. He also increasingly wrote for other orchestras, such as the Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra .

From 1987 to 1995 he formed a duo with Simon Spang-Hanssen , which was also expanded into a trio and a quartet. In 1991 he was appointed musical director of the Orchester National de Jazz for three years , with whom he released three albums of his own works: A plus tard (1992), Monk Mingus Ellington (1993) and Bouquet Final (1994). Between 1994 and 1997 he was the President of the French Union des Musiciens de Jazz .

Then he founded the Trio Bado with Olivier Sens and François Merville , from which the duo Usine with Olivier Sens emerged. He formed a keyboard trio with Emmanuel Bex (organ) and Andy Emler (synthesizer). At the Jazz Festival Grenoble 2006 he appeared for the first time in a trio with Régis Huby and Sébastien Boisseau , which was later expanded to include the trumpeter Laurent Blondiau to the Quartet H3B and also performed his composition "BadOxymore" together with the National Symphony Orchestra of Montpellier-Languedoc in Sète .

Prizes and awards

Badault received third prize as a soloist at the Concours National de Jazz de la Défense in 1979 .
