Emmanuel Bex

Emmanuel Bex (born June 8, 1959 in Caen ) is a French jazz organist.

Live and act

Bex attended the conservatories of Caen, Paris and Bordeaux, where he studied music theory, classical piano and bassoon. After meeting Bernard Lubat and Eddy Louiss , he switched to the Hammond organ in 1983 . In 1984 he received the SACEM Composition Prize . In the following years he worked with musicians such as Barney Wilen , Babik Reinhardt , Christian Escoudé , Philip Catherine , Aldo Romano and Louis Winsberg .

In 1988 he founded his first own trio; next to it he stepped u. a. with Ray Lema , Gérard Pierron and Romain Didier . In 1991 he founded the quintet BEX'tet . After several albums as a band leader and soloist, he recorded a CD in 2006 with the Brazilian singer Mônica Passos . He formed a keyboard trio with Denis Badault (piano) and Andy Emler (synthesizer). In 2007 he composed Esperanto Cantabile for Hammond organ and symphony orchestra.

Prize and awards

The Académie du Jazz awarded him the Prix ​​Django Reinhardt in 1995. With the BFG group (Bex / Ferris / Goubert ) he received the Grand Prize of the Academie Charles Cros in 2000 and the Django d'Or in 2003 . He also received the Prix ​​Boris Vian .
