Roberto Gatto (born October 6, 1958 in Rome ) is an Italian jazz drummer and composer .

Live and act

Gatto made his debut in 1975 with the “Trio di Roma” with pianist Danilo Rea and bassist Enzo Pietropaoli . Since then, as a sideman and with his own groups, he has developed into an important personality in the Italian jazz scene. He played u. a. with Dave Liebman , James Moody , Phil Woods , Tony Scott , Albert Mangelsdorff , Kai Winding , Curtis Fuller , Richard Galliano , Mal Waldron , Enrico Pieranunzi , Gianni Lenoci , John Abercrombie , Pat Metheny , Joe Zawinul , Joe Lovano , Didier Lockwood , Bobby Hutcherson and John Scofield . As a leader, he released nine albums by 2008, the first in 1986 “Notes” (at Gala) with Michael Brecker and Danilo Rea.

In 1985 and 1987 the group “Lingomania”, which he co-led, took first place in the jazz poll of the “ Musica Jazz ” magazine .

He is the artistic director of the jazz festival "Alta Valle del Potenza".
