Django d'Or (France)

The European jazz prize Django d'Or (officially also written DjangodOr ) has been awarded in France since 1992 by the ANC (Arts, Nuances, Cultures). a. Jacqueline Danno, Frank Hagège (the latter with Babik Reinhardt founding members), David Reinhardt (President) are. The award is named after Django Reinhardt . Today, up to seven prizes are generally awarded in different categories, selected by a jury. Prize winners should be French in most categories (or considered to be French, at least five years in France). Similar prices are also available in Belgium (since 1995) , Sweden (since 1998) , Italy (since 1999) , and Denmark (since 2001) .

The winners will receive a trophy designed by Raymond Moretti .

The categories for the French Django d'Or are:

  • Nouveau Talent (new talent, age under 35, sponsored by Adami , the French counterpart to GEMA ),
  • Musicien Confirmé (established musician, at least 3 albums),
  • DjangodOr Frank Hagège (for people who have made a contribution to the promotion of jazz),
  • SACEM de la création (for composers, receive a composition commission as part of the award),
  • Spectacle vivant SPEDIDAM (for live performances),
  • Musique sans Frontiéres (musicians with Balkan or Gypsy influence),
  • DjangodOr de la Guitare (guitar). An honorary Django, a prize for world music (Musiques Traditionnelles du Monde), blues, a prize for foreigners and other categories (listed below) is also occasionally awarded. Not all categories are awarded annually.

About individual award winners

  • Claude Carriere has been a producer at Radio France ( France Musique ) since 1975 and organizes their jazz concerts. Since 1982 he has headed the Jazz Club series , in which concerts are broadcast live from jazz clubs every week (over 900 until 2007).
  • Laurent Cugny and André Francis are the directors of the Maison du Jazz , a jazz center at 63 Champs Elysees in Paris that organizes jazz seminars, concerts and audiovisual exhibitions.
