Thomas Enhco (born September 29, 1988 in Paris ) is a French jazz musician ( piano , violin , composition ) and film composer .

Life

Enhco, a grandson of the conductor Jean-Claude Casadesus and son of the soprano Caroline Casadesus, began to learn the violin at the age of three and had piano lessons at the age of six. As a child he performed in the Seine-et-Marne area with the Little Jazz Band . In 1998 Didier Lockwood invited him to perform at the Jazz à Juan festival . At the age of twelve he began to take lessons at the Center des Musiques Didier Lockwood (CMDL); during this time he played a. a. with Mike Stern , Biréli Lagrène , André Ceccarelli and Niels Henning Ørsted Pedersen . At the age of 18 he had the opportunity to record his debut album Esquisse (2006) with Peter Erskine .

Enhco studied jazz and improvisation at the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris ; He had lessons a. with Riccardo Del Fra , Hervé Sellin , Dré Pallemaerts and François Théberge . Further recordings were made in 2007 with the Romane / Richard Manetti quartet . At the beginning of 2009 he recorded the album Someday My Prince Will Come for the Japanese label Blue in Green , on which he interpreted jazz standards ; Contributors were his brother David Enhco (trumpet, flugelhorn), Joachim Govin (bass) and Nicholas Charlier (drums). In 2012 he recorded the album Jack & John in a trio with John Patitucci and Jack DeJohnette in New York , followed by Fireflies ( Label Bleu with Chris Jennings and Nicolas Charlier). In the field of jazz he was involved in six recording sessions between 2007 and 2013. He also wrote film music for several television and documentary films, a. a. for the Arte production Die Mondnacht von Toulon (2011).

Prizes and awards

In 2010, Enhco took third place at the Concours de piano jazz international Martial Solal . In the same year he received the Django d'Or in the New Talent category for his album Someday My Prince Will Come , and in 2011 he won first prize at the jazz festival Jazz à Montauban . In 2012 he was awarded the FIPA d'Or for the best film music for the film The Moon Night of Toulon .
