Chris Jennings (born August 12, 1978 in Calgary ) is a Canadian jazz musician ( double bass , composition , arrangement ).

Live and act

Jennings received classical piano and guitar lessons at an early age before switching to electric bass and then double bass. As a teenager he not only had the opportunity to perform with local musicians in Calgary, but occasionally accompanied musicians such as Sheila Jordan , Edgar Meyer or Hugh Fraser . In 1996 he took part in the Banff Center for the Arts Jazz Workshop under the direction of Kenny Wheeler.

In 1996 he moved to Toronto; he graduated from the University of Toronto with a bachelor's degree in music performance . During his studies, he began to compose and perform his own music, but also worked with local artists. In 2002 he moved to Europe, where he completed his master's degree at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag and settled in Paris; he soon formed a duo with guitarist Pierre Perchaud . Since 2007 he has acted as a companion to Nguyên Lê in various projects , with whom he also toured internationally. From 2009 to 2012 he was part of Dhafer Youssef's quartet , with whom he toured again since 2017. Since 2015 he has been a member of Joachim Kühn's trio ( Beauty & Truth, Love & Peace ), in which he has also appeared with Gary Husband , Enrico Rava and Rolf Kühn (documented in the film Brothers Kühn - Two Musicians Play Each Other Free ) . He is also one of the bands of Grégory Privat and Céline Bonacina .

Jennings led a drum'n koto trio and a string quintet in addition to his quartet and a guitar trio . He also plays in the collaborative Triple Horizon Guitar Trio with Florian Zenker and Arie den Boer. He also performed in solo concerts. He can also be heard on albums by Silke Eberhard , Thomas Enhco , Lee Konitz / Giovanni Ceccerelli, El Gusto Chaabi Orchestra, Titi Robin and Marko Črnčec .
