Grégory Privat (born December 22, 1984 in Martinique ) is a French jazz musician ( piano , composition ).

Live and act

Privately comes from a family of musicians; his father José Privat was temporarily active as a pianist and composer in the world music band Malavoi and published several solo albums . He encouraged him to take piano lessons when he was six. After ten years of classical music training, he began to compose and improvise privately. He went to Toulouse to study engineering . During his studies he played solo in local clubs and with a trio consisting of Maxime Delporte (bass) and Alyss Kalbez (drums). In 2005 he appeared for the first time at the Festival de Jazz à Sainte-Marie .

After graduating, Privat founded a jazz trio with Jean Emmanuel Dommergues (bass) and William Daubé (percussion). At the age of 27 he became a professional musician. In 2011 Privat released his debut album Ki Koté . In 2014, the concept album Tales of Cyparis was released on the Plus Loin Music label ; Joby Bernabé and Gustav Karlström were involved in the album. Together with Ka drummer Sonny Troupé , he released the album Luminescence in 2015 . In 2016 his album Family Tree followed with Linley Marthe and Tilo Bertholo on Act .

Privately, he still belonged to various groups of Jacques Schwarz-Bart and Lars Danielsson's Liberetto Ensemble , with whom he also recorded. He can also be heard on albums by Franck Nicolas , Dominique di Piazza , Yousuke Onuma and Manu Le Prince. He also worked with Rémi Vignolo , Catia Werneck , Aida Khann, Paco Séry , Hadrien Feraud , Lukmil Pérez, Guillaume Perret and Stéphane Guillaume .
