Remarks

The work was created during the composer's trip to Russia in the summer of 1860, where it was performed for the first time in Pavlovsk. There it became known under the name Trapp polka . In Vienna, the polka was played twice on November 25, 1860, first in the Volksgarten and then in the Redoutensaal of the Hofburg . At the second event there was a mask procession in accordance with the new title, in which various groups of artists disguised themselves in a grotesque manner and formed this mask procession. This polka rang out for this drama. It is not known which of the two versions was played.

The playing time of the first on the CD listed under individual records is 2 minutes and 24 seconds. The second version 3 minutes and 54 seconds. These times may vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
