Jacques Black-Beard
Jacques Schwarz-Bart ( Brother Jacques , born December 22, 1962 in Les Abymes / Pointe-à-Pitre in Guadeloupe ) is a jazz saxophonist living in the USA .
Live and act
Schwarz-Bart, son of the writer couple Simone and André Schwarz-Bart , grew up listening to Caribbean music. At the age of six he got to know jazz music in Switzerland and began performing with jazz musicians from Lausanne when he was eleven. He then attended the School of Government in Guadeloupe and, at the age of twenty-four, was assistant to an MP in Paris.
In 1989 he went to the USA, where he studied at the Berklee School of Music . After graduating in 1994, he became a member of Giovanni Hidalgo's band , with whom he recorded the album Time Shifter . Recordings with Danilo Pérez , Fernando Huergo , Pamela Hines and Bob Moses followed the next year .
In 1996 he settled in New York, where he began working with Roy Hargrove . After recording with Olivier Hutman and Sasi Shalom , he joined the Haitian Tabou Combo in 1998 . In the following year his first album Immersion was released .
In 2000 he toured with D'Angelo and recorded an album with singer and bassist Me'shell Ndegeocello , which was released in 2002. In the same year he went on a tour with James Hurt and an Antilles tour with Andy Narell , Christian Amour , Raymond d'Huy and Raymond Grégo .
After appearances and exceptions with the jazz-funk group Soulive , with Mario Canonge , Jean-Philippe Fanfant , Michel Alibo , Dominique Bérose , Raymond d'Huy, Raymond Grégo and Richard Bona , he started The Brother Jacques project in 2002 , with the im The following year the album Inspiration was created. He then recorded the album Hard Grove under Hargrove and the album The Painter under Ari Hoenig and presented the Jazz-Ka Philosophy project with Franck Nicolas at the Jazz à Pointe-à-Pitre festival at the end of 2003 . In addition, an album was created in New York and Guadeloupe with Soné Ka-La , which combines the traditional Gwoka music of Guadeloupe with jazz music. In 2014 the album Jazz Racine Haiti was released . He also worked with Reggie Washington , Sangoma Everett , Omar Sosa and with his wife, the singer Stephanie McKay .
