Reggie Washington

Reggie Washington (born July 28, 1962 in Staten Island , New York City) is an American jazz and fusion musician ( electric bass , double bass , also composition).

Live and act

Washington, who grew up in a musical family, first learned the classical cello . He made his first musical experiences with his older brother Kenny Washington and played congas and bongos in New York clubs for performances by the Washington Brothers . As a cellist he played in school orchestras and the All-State Youth Orchestra as well as the All-Eastern USA Youth Orchestra , but also with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Zubin Mehta , James Levine and Claudio Abbado . While still at school at the New York High School of Music & Art , he switched to the double bass and initially received classical training with William Blossom (NY Philharmonic). In addition, he took jazz lessons from Paul West and Victor Venegas ( Fania All-Stars ). After sessions with his brother and Marcus Miller , he began to play the electric bass as well.

From the mid-1980s Washington worked with Ronald Shannon Jackson and Chico Hamilton , then mainly in the M-Base camp: Between 1990 and 2003 belonged to the bands of Steve Coleman , Cassandra Wilson , Jean-Paul Bourelly and Ravi Coltrane ; He also played in the project Buckshot LeFonque of Branford Marsalis and with Oliver Lake , Don Byron and Reuben high . He has also performed with musicians such as Salif Keïta , Mike Mainieri , Cheick Tidiane Seck , Meshell Ndegeocello , Kenny Kirkland , the World Saxophone Quartet , Arturo O'Farrill and Lester Bowie .

Washington has released five albums under its own name since 2006. In recent years he has been touring with Roy Hargrove and his own trio, but also with Fabrice Alleman , Chris Joris , Doug Hammond , Jacques Schwarz-Bart and Malcolm Braff . He has also been working from Belgium for several years, where he has two trios, one with saxophonist Erwin Vann and drummer Stéphane Galland , and the other with Washington Trio Tree with Jozef Dumoulin and Dré Pallemaerts .
