Stéphane Galland (born October 27, 1969 in Brussels ) is a Belgian fusion and jazz musician (drums).

Live and act

Galland comes from a musical family. At the age of three he got his first drum kit. At the age of nine he decided to take classical drum lessons , which he received at the Huy Conservatory . When he was 11 years old, he became interested in jazz and began performing with friends such as Eric Legnini and Jean-Pierre Catoul . Later released two albums with the Eric Legnini Trio.

In 1988 he met the guitarist Pierre Van Dormael ; with Fabrizio Cassol and Michel Hatzigeorgiou they founded the Nasa Na Band . After a trip to Africa, without Van Dormael, the band Aka Moon emerged , with whom he toured internationally and recorded almost 20 albums. In 2011 he founded his band Lobi with accordionists Petar Ralchev, Magic Malik , Malcolm Braff , Carles Benavent and percussionist Misirli Ahmet, with whom an album was created in 2012.

Galland played African music (he toured with Doudou N'Diaye Rose and was in the studio with Oumou Sangaré ), studied South Indian music (he worked with Umayalpuram K. Sivaraman) and classical music (he performed with the Liège Philharmonic Orchestra) .

Galland also belonged to the groups of Phil Abraham , Ibrahim Maalouf , Jeroen Van Herzeele , Nelson Veras , Christophe Wallemme , Emmanuelle Somers Norz , KD's Basement Party and Greetings from Mercury ; he was involved in numerous solo projects by Fabrizio Cassol. In 2003 he toured with Joe Zawinul's Syndicate . He also worked with Joe Lovano , Toots Thielemans , Philip Catherine , Nguyên Lê , Tigran Hamasyan , Ozark Henry , David Linx , Axelle Red , Zap Mama , Novastar, Claron McFadden and Cristina Zavalloni .

In 2018 Galland released the album Shijin with Malcolm Braff , Jacques Schwarz-Bart and Laurent David on the indie label alter-nativ .
