Doudou N'Diaye Rose (born July 28, 1930 in Dakar as Mamadou Ndiaye ; † August 19, 2015 ibid) was a Senegalese drummer and composer who is considered a master of the traditional Sabar . With his drum ensemble he repeatedly visited Europe, Japan and the USA and was also involved in cross-over productions .

Live and act

Rose came from a griot family and wanted to be a musician even as a child. Against the resistance of the father, who worked as an accountant, an uncle finally allowed it. After training with the drummer Mada Seck, he became the head drummer of the Senegalese national ballet in 1960, before founding his own drum orchestra in the 1970s, some of which consisted of 50 people. He contributed to the rhythmic content of the national anthem of Senegal and has worked with musicians such as Miles Davis and the Rolling Stones , but also with Peter Gabriel ( Passion: Music for The Last Temptation of Christ ) , with Michel Portal (Musiques de cinémas) and with Youssou N'Dour ( Nothing's In Vain (Coono Du Réér) ). In 1987 he gave concerts with his orchestra at the Moers Festival ; In 1996 he performed there with David Murray , Robert Irving III and Jamaaladeen Tacuma . He also founded a women's orchestra with Les Rosettes , in which some of his daughters are active. In 2006 he was recognized as the custodian of the living cultural heritage of UNESCO ("living human treasure").
