Michel Hatzigeorgiou

Michel Hatzigeorgiou (born December 11, 1961 in Charleroi ) is a Belgian jazz and fusion musician ( e-bass , composition) with Greek roots.

Hatzigeorgiou began playing bouzouki at the age of nine , then switched to electric guitar at the age of eleven and finally to bass guitar at age 14. He joined his first band, the Blackbirds , when he was studying at the Technical University in Charleroi. In 1982 he attended the jazz seminar in Liège. In 1985 he played with Jaco Pastorius , who is his main influence, Mike Stern and Toots Thielemans , Ivan Paduart , Steve Houben , Philip Catherine , Serge Lazarevitch , Diederik Wissels and Pierre Van Dormael .

Hatzigeorgiou was then involved in the De Kaai Project and the Nasa Na Band , from which the band Aka Moon emerged in 1992 , which he founded with Fabrizio Cassol and Stéphane Galland and with which he is active to the present day. In the Trio Melangtronic he works with Jozef Dumoulin and Lieven Venken. He released the album La basse d'Orphée (2015) under his own name . He can also be heard on albums by Erwin Vann , Guy Cabay , David Linx / Pierre Van Dormael, Bruno Castellucci and Toots Thielemans. Kris Defoort and Fabrizio Cassol also brought him for their album Variations on A Love Supreme (1995).

Hatzigeorgiou has been teaching at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels since 1998 .
