Ivan Paduart

Ivan Paduart (born October 20, 1966 in Anderlecht ) is a Belgian jazz pianist , keyboardist and composer .

Paduart is the son of a couple of psychotherapists and began to learn the piano when he was ten. As a teenager he played in his own fusion- jazz amateur group "Contrefaut". In 1985, Michel Herr , with whom he attended a master's class, convinced him to devote himself entirely to jazz, and he studied in Antwerp and at the Rotterdam Conservatory. In 1989 he founded the fusion quintet "Aftertouch" (album of the same name in 1990 on B-Sharp Records), with saxophonist Vincent Mardens, guitarist Patrick Deltenre, drummer Mimi Verderame and bassist Benoit Vanderstraeten. Since then he has played a. a. with Toots Thielemans (1995/96), Philip Catherine , Didier Lockwood , Claude Nougaro , Rick Margitza (on European tour 2001, album "Trio Live"), Mike Stern , Hermeto Pascoal and Tom Harrell .

In the group he founded "True Story" (album of the same name "True Stories" on Igloo 2000 with Charlie Mariano ) played a. a. Nathalie Loriers , the saxophonists Ben Sluijs and Steve Houben , the violinist Jean-Pierre Catoul who died in 2001 , the guitarist Peter Hertmans , Stefan Lievestro on bass and Hans van Oosterhout on drums. He plays in his own trio and quartet and u. a. with Richard Galliano (also in a duo). In 2004 he recorded “Douce Illusions” with Galliano and his “Ensemble de musique nouvelle”. Paduart also accompanied the singer Sylvie Merck.

Since 1990 he has released more than ten albums, such as "Illusions sensorielles" (1993, in a trio with bassist Philippe Aerts and drummer Bruno Castellucci ) "Clair Obscur" 1997 (trio with Hans van Oosterhout on drums and Nicolas Thys on bass, a tribute to Fred Hersch ) and “Belgian Suites” 1998 (trio with Oosterhout, Hein van de Geyn on bass), “Blue Landscapes” 2003 (trio with Aerts and the drummer Dré Pallemaerts). In 2005 his first solo album "Alone" was released.

In 1989 he won first prize at the “Jazz Rallye Brussels” (in the band of trumpeter Gino Latucca ) and in the same year second prize at the French “ Concours de La Défense ” (in the band of Belgian trombonist Phil Abraham ).
