Michel Herr (born February 16, 1949 in Brussels ) is a Belgian jazz pianist , composer and arranger .

Herr has been active in the jazz scene since the 1970s. In 1974 he performed with Wolfgang Engstfeld's and Uli Beckerhoff's Jazz-Track group . He played u. a. with Joe Lovano , Joe Henderson , Chet Baker , Archie Shepp , Charlie Mariano , Johnny Griffin , Lee Konitz , Bill Frisell , Randy Brecker , Art Farmer , Pepper Adams , John Abercrombie , Lew Tabackin , Palle Mikkelborg , Palle Danielsson , Paolo Fresu , Aldo Romano , Riccardo Del Fra , Jean-François Jenny-Clark , Daniel Humair , Richard Galliano , Norma Winstone , Philip Catherine , Steve Houben and Bert Joris . Since 1984 he has been a regular companion of Toots Thielemans on his tours and concerts.

In the course of his career, Herr led several groups of his own, starting with the fusion band "Solis Lacus" in the 1970s. With Wolfgang Engstfeld he led a quartet (with drummer Leroy Lowe and changing bassists), with Lowe and Hein van de Geyn a trio (“Intuitions” 1989), with Engstfeld, Bert Joris, Riccardo Del Fra and Dré Pallemaerts the “Michel Herr European Quintet "(" Notes of Life ", Igloo ), expanded with strings to" Michel Herr Unexpected Encounters "and the nine-member" Michel Herr & Life Line "(with Houben, Bert Joris, among others).
