Martina van boxes

Martina van Kasten (* 1960 in Mönchengladbach ) is a German director . She studied visual communication at the University of Applied Sciences in Düsseldorf . 1983 to 1987 she completed an acting training at the Hanover University of Music and Theater . She was a guest at the Ingolstadt and St. Gallen city ​​theaters .

Guest performances and prizes

In 1992 she became artistic director and managing director of the Theaterwerkstatt Hannover alongside Michael Habelitz. There she directed numerous productions . In 1994 she directed The Drowned Land by Ad de Bont. Several of her works have been awarded prizes. For example, she received the “Traumspiele” festival award of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia (1994) for her production Das drowned Land by Ad de Bont and in 2000 the Lower Saxony theater award for The Blue Chair based on Claude Boujon's picture book. In 2003 she directed the model student (based on Stephen King ) and The Story Conspiracy, both adapted by Erik Schäffler as a co-production of the Hanover Theater Workshop, the Triebwerk Theater together with Kampnagel Hamburg. The latter, based on the motifs of an Indian folk tale , was invited to India in 2003 as part of a series of guest performances by “Culture in motion” together with the Goethe Institute .

Young playhouse

She quickly became known in the independent theater scene beyond Hanover. Her productions have often been invited to national and international festivals (“Impulse 2001” among others). She was also a board member of the regional association of independent theaters in Lower Saxony. The new director of the Bochum Schauspielhaus, Elmar Goerden , set an example and founded the Junge Schauspielhaus . With this, he wants to make young theatergoers less reluctant to play by making full use of the communicative possibilities of this form of theater.

After Annette Raffelt left the Schauspielhaus Zürich , Elmar Goerden appointed Martina van Kasten as the new director of the Junge Schauspielhaus at the end of 2005. Since then she has staged, among others, Der Luftballonverkäufer after Roberto Frabetti, Troi as a coproduction of the Schauspielhaus Bochum with the Theaterwerkstatt Hannover, as well as The Diary of Anne Frank and Strike! Tonight we hit back to Lorenz Hippe, but also The Storm according to William Shakespeare and Clouds are pulling annoyance from Ad de Bont. She received the audience award at the 2007 Children's and Young People's Theater Meeting in Oberhausen for her production Der Luftballonverkäufer after Roberto Frabetti. In addition, she worked with the renowned author Kristo Šagor in the 2007/2008 season . The resulting drama Before We Go was premiered on January 26th, 2008 in the theater underground (in the Schauspielhaus Bochum) by the Junge Ensemble.
