Hans van Oosterhout (born April 21, 1965 in Oosterhout ) is a Dutch jazz and fusion musician ( drums ).

Live and act

Oosterhout began playing the drums at the age of seven after seeing a concert by Huub Janssen and Johnny Meiers. Immediately after graduating from school, he began studying instrumental at the Rotterdam Conservatory . Immediately after graduating in 1987, he was appointed professor of drums there. He is currently also the main subject teacher at the Fontys Conservatory in Tilburg .

Oosterhout developed into a very popular drummer. In the 1990s he was part of the Philip Catherine Quartet and the Nathalie Loriers Trio . As a member of Karel Boehlee's trio , he played regularly with Toots Thielemans . Hein van de Geyn brought him into his group Baseline , where he also worked with John Abercrombie . He was involved in the album Dutch Songbook (2010) by Jan Menu and Jasper Soffers , which explored the potential of Dutch jazz standards .

He has also performed with Ralph Moore , Nat Adderley , Bob Malach , Viktor Lazlo , Rick Margitza , Denise Jannah , Dee Dee Bridgewater , Madeline Bell , Kenny Wheeler , Gary Burton , Benny Golson , Magic Malik , Red Holloway , James Moody , Nelson Veras , Harmen Fraanje , Jesse van Ruller , Deborah Brown , Dee Daniels, Dr. Lonnie Smith , Pete King , Richard Galliano , Chico Freeman , Lionel Loueke , Anne Ducros , David Sánchez , Johnny Griffin , Randy Brecker , John Scofield and Gino Vannelli .

In 1998 he was voted best jazz drummer in Belgium Jazz Magazine . He plays as a sideman on more than 100 CD recordings , among others with Lee Konitz , Jacques Schwarz-Bart , Dick de Graaf , Olivier Hutman , Bobby Watson , Ivan Paduart , Cor Bakker , Spike Robinson , David Linx , Mark Murphy , Jack van Poll , Michel Herr , Sal La Rocca or Vaya Con Dios .
