Harmen Fraanje (born January 23, 1976 in Roosendaal ) is a Dutch jazz pianist .

Live and act

Fraanje studied at the conservatories in Tilburg , where he graduated with “cum laude” in 2000, and Utrecht . He leads several of his own formations. In 2000 he toured France with trumpeter Toma Gouband and bassist Brice Soniano , and the project resulted in the group Aneris . With his group ( Nelson Veras , Malik Mezzadri , Hein van de Geyn and Matthieu Chazarenc ) he released two albums on Challenge Records , Sonatala (2004) and Ronja (2006).

Fraanje works in duo formations with the Italian pianist Igor Roma , the French flautist Malik Mezzadri , the Dutch singer Charlie Dee and the singer Ntjamrosie from Cameroon. In 2008 he first appeared in a trio with the cellist Ernst Reijseger and the Senegalese singer and percussionist Mola Sylla .

As a sideman he worked a. a. with the group Fugimundi (with Eric Vloeimans and Anton Goudsmit ), the Michael Moore Quartet (with Michael Vatcher and Clemens van der Feen ), the Stefan Lievestro Sextet (with Jasper Blom , Mete Erker , Jesse van Ruller and Hans van Oosterhout ), the Quartet Narcissus by Robin Verheyen and the Oxymore group (with Mark Haanstra , Guillaume Orti , Oene van Geel and Chander Sardjoe ).

In 2004 Fraanje received a composition commission for the North Sea Jazz Festival . In 2006 he was nominated here for the Bird Award . In 2007 he received the VIP 2007 of the Dutch Jazz Club , the following year the Prins Bernhard Cultuurprijs Noord Brabant .
