The Utrecht Conservatorium is one of the nine conservatories in the Netherlands .

It was founded in 1875 as the Toonkunst Muziekschool . Since 1974 it has been domiciled in the former concert hall of the Gebouw voor Kunsten en Wetenschappen and in the former infirmary St. Joannes de Deo , both located on Mariaplaats . In 1987 the Conservatory was merged with the Nederlandse Beiaardschool (Dutch Carillon School ) in Amersfoort and the Nederlands Instituut voor Kerkmuziek (Dutch Institute for Church Music) to form the Music Faculty of the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht (Art Academy Utrecht).
