Maastricht Conservatory

The Maastricht Conservatorium in Maastricht is one of the nine conservatories in the Netherlands . Since 2001, it has been a faculty of the state Hogeschool Zuyd (University South) in the field of bachelor’s courses . Around 600 students study at the Conservatory, over half of them from abroad. The school employs around 130 people.

The conservatory offers training in the fields of European classical music , jazz , musical composition and opera , as well as training as a music teacher . These courses can be completed as a four-year bachelor's degree or as a two-year master's degree (the latter from 2009 together with Maastricht University ). By agreement, many exams (including the final exam) can also be taken in English, French or German, but only in Dutch for teacher training courses.

The Maastricht Conservatorium works with the other two faculties of the Hogeschool Zuyd, the Toneelacademie Maastricht (Academy of Performing Arts ) and the Academie Beeldende Kunsten Maastricht (Academy of Fine Arts ) as well as with the Faculty of Art and Culture of the University of Maastricht . In cooperation with the privately operated Fontys Conservatory, the Conservatory founded the Zuid Nederlandse Hogeschool voor Muziek a few years ago for postgraduate studies ( Masters ) .

In addition, there are exchange partnerships with several other European universities, for example with the University of Music Cologne , the Royal Conservatory Brussels , the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz .

The conservatory regularly hosts music festivals and awards music prizes.
