Chander Sardjoe

Chander Sardjoe (* 1970 ) is a Dutch jazz drummer of Indonesian origin.

Sardjoe studied at the Amsterdam Conservatory . Since 1994 he has been engaged in classical South Indian music . In 1995 he went to Bangalore and Madras , where he studied with the mridangam player NG Ravi , a student of Umayalpuram K Sivaraman .

After his return to Amsterdam he was part of Steve Coleman's band Secret Doctrine . In 1996 he became a member of the Kartet group (with Guillaume Orti , Benoît Delbecq and Hubert Dupont ). He also worked a. a. with Dave Liebman , Linley Marthe , James Genus , Ronan Guilfoyle , Rudresh Mahanthappa , Aydın Esen , Scott Tinkler , Jamie Oehlers , Lee Konitz , Mark Turner , Geoffroy de Masure , Jean Luc Lehr and Andy Milne . In ten years he worked on more than forty albums as a sideman.

Since 1994 Sardjoe has given master classes and workshops worldwide. a. at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, the Jyväskylä Conservatory , the Berlin School of Music and the Royal Academy of Music in London. from 2007 to 2012 he was a member of the Trio Ivoire (with Hans Lüdemann and Aly Keïta ).
