Mats Eilertsen (born March 4, 1975 in Trondheim ) is a Norwegian jazz musician ( double bass ) and composer.

Live and act

After training in Trondheim, Eilertsen studied in depth at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague . He has worked on numerous albums by Norwegian and British musicians, for example for the Kåre Nymark Collective , Nils Økland , Eldbjørg Raknes , Solveig Slettahjell , Jacob Young and the band Food of the English saxophonist Iain Ballamy . He has performed with Pat Metheny , Kenny Wheeler , Susanne Abbuehl , Wolfert Brederode and Nils Petter Molvær .

Since 2004 he has worked with his own group Turanga with Fredrik Ljungkvist (clarinet), Ernst Reijseger ( cello ) and Thomas Strønen ( drums ), in the quartets of Thomas Strønen and Hildegunn Øiseth , in the trio of the pianist Maria Kannegaard and in the trios of the Pianists Håvard Wiik and Alexi Tuomarila . From 2008 to 2015 he was also on tour as the bass player of the Tord Gustavsen Ensemble .

The album And Then Comes the Night , released on February 1, 2019, was recorded by the Mats Eilertsen Trio (with drummer Thomas Strønen and the Dutch pianist Harmen Fraanje ). The recording location was the Auditorio Stelio Molo recording studio in Lugano, with Manfred Eicher as the producer . The album name is based on a novel by the Icelandic writer Jón Kalman Stefánsson .

Mats Eilertsen lives close to nature in a village near Oslo .
