Håkon Kornstad (born April 5, 1977 in Oslo ) is a Norwegian jazz saxophonist .
Live and act
Kornstad studied saxophone at the Trondheim Jazz Conservatory. There he founded the Trio Triangle with Wetle Holte and Per Zanussi . Later, Erlend Skomsvoll and Live Maria rye added, and the band was under the name Wibutee the mountains Nattjazz Festival 1998 her first major concert.
After completing his studies, Kornstad returned to Oslo, where Bugge Wesseltoft signed him for his Jazzland Recordings label . His first album with Wibutee, Newborn Thing , was released here in 1999 . Kornstad also formed the trio Tri-Dim with David Stackenäs and Ingar Zach and has performed with Wesseltoft, Sidsel Endresen , Eivind Aarset and Anja Garbarek since 1999 .
In 2001 he performed at the Molde International Jazz Festival in the Kornstad Trio ( Mats Eilertsen and Paal Nilssen-Love ) with Pat Metheny . In 2002 he received the music award at the Kongsberg Jazz Festival . The commissioned composition associated with the award was performed there the following year with trumpeter Axel Dörner and was released as an album in 2004.
In addition, Kornstad has been working in a duo with the drummer Paal Nilssen-Love since 2000. In 2003 he recorded the album Eight Tunes We Like with pianist Håvard Wiik . Their second album together, The Bad and the Beautiful , was nominated for the Spellemann Prize in 2006. He gave several concerts in China and toured Europe, the USA and Canada.
As a member of the Jazzland Community , a group of jazz musicians from the Jazzland label, he toured with Wesseltoft, Sidsel Endresen, Eivind Aarset, Marius Reksjø and Wetle Holte. In 2007 Jazzland released his solo album Single Engine . The most important jazz prize in Norway, the Buddyprisen , was awarded to him in 2015.
