Kongsberg Jazz Festival

Kongsberg Jazzfestival is a music festival that has been held annually in Kongsberg ( Viken ) since 1964 and has a strong focus on jazz . It is the most important Norwegian jazz festival along with the Oslo and Molde jazz festivals. It takes place in early July.

The festival was originally organized by the Jazz Evidence jazz club , but has quickly become independent. Today the festival is organized as a foundation . The Kongsberg Jazz Festival also includes free jazz and other styles of improvised music.

At the Kongsberg Jazz Festival 2018, 38,000 tickets were sold, which is also the previous visitor record. Half was accounted for by two major events, the rest by club concerts that were more or less sold out.

DnB NOR prizes

In cooperation with bank DnB NOR, a prize of 100,000 kroner (approx. € 12,500) (2011 - 300,000 kroner) will be given to the most outstanding Norwegian jazz artist of the year.
