Susanna Karolina Wallumrød (born June 23, 1979 in Kongsberg ) is a Norwegian singer, pianist and songwriter who blends jazz , pop music and electronica and initially appeared almost exclusively under the name Susanna .

Live and act

Wallumrød comes from a musical family; she is the sister of pianist Christian Wallumrød and drummer Fredrik Wallumrød and cousin of pianist David Wallumrød . Since 2000 she has performed with the duo Susanna and the Magical Orchestra , in which she works with keyboard player Morten Qvenild , creating “introverted pop art”. From 2004 she released several albums and toured Europe.

From 2007 onwards he also made solo albums in English. In 2011 she presented an album in Norwegian for the first time with Jeg vil hjem til menneskene , on which she interpreted poems by Gunvor Hofmo as songs. The Swiss harpist Giovanna Pessi could already be heard on her solo album Sonata Mix Dwarf Cosmos (2008) ; In 2012, the joint album If Grief Could Wait followed , on which songs by Henry Purcell , Leonard Cohen and Nick Drake are interpreted in addition to their own songs . For the album The Forester , Wallumrød teamed up with contemporary composers Julian Skar and Jan Martin Smørdal and the Norwegian new music ensemble Ensemble NeON.

There was a collaboration with the singer Jenny Hval in 2009 for the Ladyfest festival , which resulted in a 15-part surrealistic song cycle. At the Oslo Jazz Festival 2012 and 2016 there was a collaboration with Tord Gustavsen . Wallumrød is married to the musician and producer Helge Sten .

Prizes and awards

Wallumrød received the Gammleng Prize in 2012 and the Spellemann Prize the following year . In 2015 she was awarded the Radka Toneff Minnepris . In 2016 she received the Kongsberg Jazz Award .
