Vossajazz
Vossa Jazz (also known as Vossajazz ) is a three-day international jazz festival in Voss , Norway , 75 km northeast of Bergen . It takes place annually in the week before Easter . Over 5,000 concert-goers come to the small town with its 14,000 inhabitants.
history
Vossajazz was founded on December 19, 1973. Trude Storheim has been the festival director since 2007.
In 1980, in the old Voss cinema, the album Just The Way You Are was created from a live session by Rune Gustafsson and Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen .
Structures
The three-day festival is carried out by around 260 volunteers. In 2014 there were around 40 events, some of which took place across the small town. The biggest concerts took place in the “Vossasalen”, the slightly smaller ones in the “Festsalen” or the Pentagon Nightclub . With good planning you can attend a third of the overlapping concerts.
Vossa Jazz is not puristic, but brings folk and world music to the stage in addition to jazz combos. In addition, there is a Badnajazz for the children, Ekstremjazz (open air concert at high altitude above sea level), Eldrejazz and UNGjaJAZZja! .
The claim to be an international festival is fulfilled through a few main acts. At the 2014 festival, for example, it was Bill Frisell 's Beautiful Dreamers Trio and Jaga Jazzist , in 2011 it was Tomasz Stańko , Terje Rypdal and Dave Holland . The focus is on Scandinavian and especially Norwegian musicians.
Vossa Jazz takes part in the national competition for young talent, Jazzintro , which takes place every two years . Young and not yet established combos from all over Norway are allowed to apply. A jury will select eight bands from the submitted applicants, two of which will perform at Vossa Jazz. Only one of the two gets one of the coveted appearances at the Moldejazz Festival of the same year after the decision of a jury .
A special feature is that an ordered, newly created long composition (by Norwegian composers) has been premiered here every year since 1983. It is considered prestigious in Norway. The Norwegian state broadcaster recorded and later broadcast the concert nationwide.
