Didier Petit (* 1962 ) is a French cellist and composer in the field of jazz who was also active in the field of contemporary music.

Live and act

Petit began playing the cello at the age of six; he attended the conservatory until he was 15 years old. Under the influence of a concert by Michel Portal and Bernard Lubat , he turned to jazz and improvisational music. He first played in Celestrial Communication Orchestra of Alan Silva ; In 1990 he founded the In Situ label . In the following years he played a. a. with Un Drame Musical Instantané , Vladimir Tarasov , Marilyn Crispell , Malcolm Goldstein , Carlos Zingaro , Raymond Boni , JT Bates , Jacques Di Donato , Carlos Andreu , François Tusques , Denis Colin , Benoît Delbecq , Fred Van Hove , Lê Quan Ninh , Iva Bittova , Jean-François Pauvros , Ramón López , Xu Fengxia , Jean-Marc Montera , Peter Scherr and Noël Akchoté . He had a duo with André Minvielle , then with the Norwegian drummer Terje Isungset; He also played in the quartet of Sylvain Kassap and in the trio of Hélène Breschand , as well as with Lucia Recio , Guillaume Roy and Hélène Labarrière . Under his own name, he released the album Sorcier on Leo Records in 1989 , followed by Déviation (2000).

Petit also worked on various projects with artists such as Jean-Yves Cousseau and Xavier Deshoulière , as well as with the writers and actors Stephane Olry , Michel Gillot and Jean-Michel Baudoin . In 1996 he was a founding member of the independent label association Allumés du Jazz , founded the Festival WormHoles and in 2011 was musical director of the Festival Sidération . In the field of jazz he was involved in 31 recording sessions between 1979 and 2010. With Xu Fengxia and Sylvain Kassap he has been forming the freely improvising East-West Trio since 2010 .
