Denis Colin

Denis Colin (born July 24, 1956 in Vanves ) is a French bass clarinetist and composer of world jazz and modern creative .

Colin studied clarinet, composition and musicology at the Conservatory in Versailles and the University of Vincennes , and then became interested in free jazz through Jo Maka . From 1977 he performed with Steve Lacy and Alan Silva . Between 1979 and 1982 he was a member of the faculty at the Institute for Artistic and Cultural Perception . He has played with Silva's Celestrial Communication Orchestra , in François Cotinaud's group Texture , in Luc Le Masnes Bekektivenis and with François Tusques (since 1988). In 1991 he founded his own trio with the cellist Didier Petit and the percussionist Pablo Cueco, which moved between world music and jazz and since 1995 has also been expanded to form the Les Arpenteurs quintet . In some cases, the trio also worked with musicians from the Minneapolis scene following a US tour. In 2007 Colin performed with singer Gwen Matthews at the Toronto Jazz Festival . In 2009 he founded his large-format Société des Arpenteurs , with which he released two albums and also gave concerts at the JazzFest Berlin in 2010 . In 2011 he toured Australia with Chander Sardjoe .

Colin also wrote theater and film scores. Since 2003 he has appeared occasionally with Archie Shepp .
