Trygve Seim (* 25. April 1971 in Oslo ) is a Norwegian jazz - saxophonist .

Live and act

Seim started playing the saxophone after listening to Jan Garbarek's CD “Eventyr” in 1985 . In 1990 he took his musical studies at the Conservatory of Trondheim on.

In 1991 he and the Norwegian pianist Christian Wallumrød founded the group Airamero with Johannes Eick on bass and Per Oddvar Johansen on drums . In 1994 the CD of the same name was recorded. The band went on various tours in Scandinavia and Germany .

Trygve was appointed to Jon Balke's group Oslo 13 in 1992 and in 1994 he took over the management of the group together with Morten Halle and Torbjørn Sunde under the new name “1300 Oslo”.

Seim was also a member of the jazz quartet "The Source" with Øyvind Brække, Ingebrigt Flaten and Per Oddvar Johansen . The band recorded five CDs and toured across Europe and Russia . He also worked as the sideman of Edward Vesala and Kenny Wheeler .

Seim's CD "Different Rivers", released on ECM in 2000 , received good reviews worldwide. For this production he also received the German Record Critics' Prize . Since then he has again recorded the CD “Sangam” for ECM and worked on Iro Haarla's ECM album Northbound (2004) and in 2014 on Jacob Young's album Forever Young (with Marcin Wasilewski , Sławomir Kurkiewicz , Michał Miśkiewicz ).

Lately he has also composed for classical musicians such as the Norwegian opera singer Anne-Lise Berntsen and “Between Voice and Presence” for the “Trio Mediaeval”. In 2006 he created the commissioned composition "Reiser" for the Voss Jazz Festival ; In 2011 the duo album Purcor (ECM, with Andreas Utnem ) was released
