Sławomir Kurkiewicz (born May 10, 1975 in Koszalin ) is a Polish double bass player and composer of modern jazz .

Life

Kurkiewicz met the pianist Marcin Wasilewski during his school days at the high school in Koszalin , with whom he has been playing jazz since 1990 . He completed his training at the Jazz Institute of the Katowice Music Academy in 1998.

In 1993 Wasilewski and Kurkiewicz founded the Simple Acoustic Trio with the drummer Michał Miśkiewicz , which quickly recorded several albums; since 1994 it has also worked with Tomasz Stańko , with whom it recorded several albums and performed internationally. The trio, which continues to this day with the original line-up, toured worldwide in this format. It was also on the road with Jacob Young / Trygve Seim (among others at Elbjazz 2014) and with Joakim Milder .

Furthermore Kurkiewicz worked with Henryk Miśkiewicz and with Manu Katché . He can also be heard on albums by Piotr Wojtasik , Grzegorz Karnas and Anna Maria Jopek . He also wrote the music for the feature film Nie ma takiego numeru (2005) by Bartosz Brzeskot.
