Joakim Milder (born September 24, 1965 in Stockholm , Sweden) is a Swedish jazz saxophonist (tenor, soprano).

Live and act

Milder grew up in a musical family: his father is a swing pianist, his mother a music teacher, and his siblings are also active musicians. From 1984 to 1987 he studied at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm . He became known early on as a member of Fredrik Norén's band . In 1995 he played the album Live in Stockholm with Red Mitchell and Roger Kellaway ; In 1996 Tomasz Stańko asked him to record his Komeda tribute Litania (which they also presented at the JazzFest Berlin in 2011 ); with Palle Danielsson he recorded an album with jazz arrangements of Swedish folk music ( Nordan ). He has also recorded several albums as a band leader and can be heard as a sideman on recordings by Bosse Broberg , Jonas Knutsson , Nils Landgren ( Ballads ), Nils Lindberg , Mattias Ståhl , Viktoria Tolstoy ( My Russian Soul ) and Fredrik Norén. At the JazzBaltica 2009 festival , he presented music that was dedicated to Esbjörn Svensson and was actually designed for a duo with him.

Since 2006 Milder has been professor of saxophone, ensemble playing and improvisation at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. In the same year he received the jazz prize of the Royal Music Academy .
